Brakvlei is a family orientated guest farm situated in the heart of South Africa, in a malaria free, safe and secluded area offering a one-of-a-kind Karoo experience.

Holiday in the Karoo and discover wildlife, birding, farming, family fun and history, a holiday so diverse as the landscape itself. A land where distances are long but comparatively short.

A place where you can escape from your day to day rush, unwind and find pleasure in the simple things.

Admire rock formations, the spectacular artworks of nature, dry river beds transforming into a mighty river after good rains, cycle, hike and meditate with only fresh air to breathe. Enjoy festivities around a "doorn hout" campfire, chatting, making "stokbrood" and exchanging stories for generations to come.

A place where children can play without fear, a place where grown ups may be sincere.

Join us for a holiday you'll never forget and make us part of your memories.

Brakvlei farm is situated near Murraysburg, 90km from Graaff Reinet. Halfway between Three Sisters and Richmond NC, 28km off the N1. We offer a variety of accommodation to suit your needs.

Brakvlei farm is unique, a living museum, and modern working sheep and angora goat farm. It also encompasses a private game reserve with spectacular scenery. Visitors can experience modern farming methods, a natural relaxing life style and even catch a glimpse of the future.

History regained

The first exploratory drilling for oil in South Africa took place on Karee bosch. The remains of the drill can still be seen.

The bungalow in Doornkloof is situated in the area of a Boerwar battle site.

Names of this regiment are allegedly engraved on rocks in the koppies surrounding the bungalow.
